US urges Egyptians to avoid violence

The United States on Wednesday renewed calls for Egyptians to "show restraint and avoid violence" amid clashes between supporters and opponents of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

WASHINGTON: The United States on Wednesday renewed calls for Egyptians to "show restraint and avoid violence" amid clashes between supporters and opponents of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

"We reiterate our call for all sides in Egypt to show restraint and avoid violence. Egypt's path to democratic change must be peaceful," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley told the microblogging website Twitter.
