The US Senate, debating a bill to implement civilian nuclear energy cooperation with India, on Thursday rejected the Ensign Amendment.

WASHINGTON: The US Senate, debating a bill to implement civilian nuclear energy cooperation with India, on Thursday rejected the Ensign Amendment.

Discussed behind closed doors, it was defeated 71 to 27, and concerned with prohibiting foreign spies from inspecting US facilities and ensuring that International Atomic Energy Agency equipment was not used for espionage.

The amendment had nothing to do with India or US-India.
