US dismisses call by RIC for talks between Serbia and Kosovo

The United States has dismissed the call by foreign ministers of India, Russia and China for resumption of talks between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo on the status of the breakaway state, saying that it has no merit.

NEW YORK: The United States has dismissed the call by foreign ministers of India, Russia and China for resumption of talks between the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo on the status of the breakaway state, saying that it has no merit.

Replying to a question, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said that the status of Kosovo has already been resolved and it is an independent state now.

India, Russia and China do not recognise the unilateral declaration of Kosovo for independence from Serbia.

"Russia, India and China favour the resumption of talks between Belgrade and Pristina to reach a consensus between them on all problems relating to this Serb territory. We believe the Kosovo problem should be resolved exclusively on the basis of international law," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after the meeting with foreign ministers of India and China in Yekaterinburg on Thursday.
