US Congressional Research Service report: BJP flaunts CRS report praising Gujarat CM Narendra Modi
BJP ducked all questions on whether it agreed with the report on Modi being among the party's likely candidates for the prime ministership in future elections.
Modi restrained himself to a one-line message on twitter: "Another recognition for 6 crore Gujaratis. US report hails Gujarat's effective governance. Jay Jay Garvi Guj."
His party said it was an eye-opener for all those who have been attacking the chief minister.
"We are all aware that Congress has been in denial mode and internationally also there has been criticism about Modi. But the last two days we have heard two things - the US Congressional Research Service report and the Supreme Court order," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said at a press conference here.
Quoting from the think-tank report, he recalled Washington had denied Modi a visa in 2005.
"These figures about Gujarat's development come from the same country that had denied him a visa," he said. Rudy hit out at political opponents saying Congress, which had lost three assembly elections in Gujarat in a row, was desperate.
