Uri Response: Surgical strikes correct but late decision of Modi government, says Mayawati
LUCKNOW: BSP chief Mayawati has called the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army as the right step taken albeit a little too late. She said that the people of the country in view of the previous governments failure to act on such issues, was of the opinion that such strikes should have been carried out much earlier.

Congratulating the Indian Army for the successful operations she said that it should be equipped with modern equipments and weapons. She said that the Indian Army should be given a free hand and the central government should step up its diplomatic activities.

She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to go ahead with surgical strikes inside the LoC on terrorist camps was a delayed decision and had it been taken immediately after the Pathankot air base strike it would have averted the Uri attacks which led to 18 soldiers getting martyred.

Mayawati said that BJP chief Amit Shah’s remarks that the surgical strikes have led to a new India being born was motivated out of political one upmanship and credit jacking.

She said that the BJP and especially PM Modi should not get excited over the developments and start celebrating and instead of trying to gain political and electoral mileage from the attacks, as post attacks the challenges before the country have increased. She said that the country and its people should be secured by the central government.

Maaywati demanded that security on the Indian-Pakistan border and all other international borders that India shares with neighbouring countries should be strengthened. She said that the Modi government has ignored the security of borders in its two and half years rule which has led to terror activities increasing in the country.

She said that it was the faulty policies of BJP-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir that the Indian Army instead of protecting the borders was forced to police their own citiziens in J&K.
