Akhilesh Yadav today said that within the next six months, urban and rural areas of the state will get 22 and 14 hours of power supply.

ALIGARH: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said that within the next six months, urban and rural areas of the state will get 22 and 14 hours of power supply.

Laying the foundation stone of 660 mega watts super critical thermal power unit at Harduagung here, Yadav said, "The urban and rural areas of the state will be getting 22 and 14 hours power supply within the next six months."

Terming today as a historic in the sphere of power generation in the state, the Chief Minister said, this plant would start generating "clean electricity " within four years.

"By the end of next four years the state would become self sufficient in in the field of electricity," he said.

The thermal plant, whose foundation stone was laid today is being built at a cost of Rs 4,826 crore. The contract for this project has been given to Japanese company Toshiba.

Yadav also inaugurated 12 electricity substations which would be instrumental in transmitting power in 11 districts of western Uttar Pradesh including Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahar, Agra, Etawah and Mainpuri.

These substations built at a cost of Rs 657 crore would play a critical role in improving the power supply position in these districts, he said.

The Chief Minister said that he had also sanctioned a four lane highway to connect Aligarh city to Yamuna Expressway at Tappal about 50 kilometre from here.
