For three decades, whichever party has ruled Uttar Pradesh has attempted to imprint the capital with ideological landmarks. The BSP, under Mayawati, built large memorials honouring Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram.

The Samajwadi Party followed with Lohia Park and Janeshwar Mishra Park to showcase its own icons. Now, with the BJP in its second term, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's long-planned 'Rashtra Prerna Sthal' at the Gomti riverfront has taken final shape.

Announced in 2019 and spread across 67 acres, the memorial-built at an estimated cost of ₹230 crore-will be inaugurated on December 25, the birth anniversary of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

It features grand statues of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Deendayal Upadhyay and Vajpayee. A vast ground capable of hosting more than one lakh people, a large stage for political events, a digital museum on the three leaders, an open-air theatre, VIP lounges and parking for over 1,000 vehicles make the complex a future hub for major BJP gatherings.
