UPA should take bold steps to improve Indo-Pakistan relation: Mufti Mohammad Sayeed

PDP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also emphasised on the need for evolving national consensus for resolution of Kashmir problem.

JAMMU: Emphasising on the need for evolving national consensus for resolution of Kashmir problem, Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that UPA government should initiate "bold" steps to improve relations with Pakistan.

"UPA government should initiate some bold steps to improve relations with Pakistan. There is need of evolving national consensus for resolution of Kashmir problem", PDP patron and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said while addressing an public meeting at village Langer in the outskirts of Jammu city today.

He said that PDP led regime had scripted a new chapter of peace and development in the state.

"After 1947, all the traditional routes connecting Jammu and Kashmir with rest of the world were plugged and there was a sense of siege among the people. By opening cross LoC routes PDP tried to open these plugged traditional routes", he said and added that opening of Sailkot-Suchetgarh road was also on the agenda of PDP.

Reiterating demand of his party to "fully empower" Panchayats, the former Chief Minister warned that his party would vehemently oppose any attempt to ignore elected members of panchayats in constituting Block Samities and Zila Parishad.

"Only elected persons should be made head of Block Samities and Zila Parishad," he said.
