The West Bengal Congress Legislative Party has resolved to walk out of the Trinamool Congress alliance in West Bengal, senior party spokesman in Bengal Prof O P Mishra told ET. This could be the first formal move towards the crack in UPA-II whereby Mamata Banerjee led TMC may part ways at the centre too.

"It is very difficult for us to continue as an ally in Bengal with the TMC opposing Prnaba Mukherjee's candidature as the president," Mishra said. A resolution to this effect has been taken and the West Bengal chapter will be writing to the Central leadership by this evening.

Mamata Banerjee's decision to pose her own candidates challenging the Congress has not gone down well with the UPA leadership.
