UPA Govt trying to incorporate Left's suggestions: Antony
The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was trying its best to incorporate the suggestions of Left parties in the coming Union Budget, Defence Minister A K Antony said on Friday.
The UPA Government was moving forward by correcting its stand when "mistakes" were pointed out by Left parties, he said after accepting the 'Malayali 2007 Award' instituted by Asianet Television Channel from state Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan.
The Centre had also initiated steps to help farmers and small scale sectors, which was facing "adverse impact" of globalisation, Antony said.
However, he said globalisation was a reality and no country could ignore it and move in a different direction.
The economy of the country was growing, but it was true that the fruits of growth were not being equally distributed among the people, he pointed out.
According to experts, China and India would be most powerful economic powers in the present century, he said.
While following the path of globalisation, schemes also should be evolved to protect and safeguard traditional farmers and small-scale sectors, Antony said.
Speaking on the occasion, Achuthanandan said people were moving more towards the glitter of globalisation.
Asianet Chairman Rajeev Chandrasekher was among those present on the occasion.
