UPA govt responsible for mess: Venkaiah
The BJP on Saturday accused the Congress-led UPA government of having "messed up everything", including economy, agriculture and foreign policy in the country.
Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu ridiculed UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's appeal to the states to reduce prices to control inflation.
"It was the Centre which has increased the prices of petroleum products, resulting in price-rise and steep hike in inflation across the country. Sonia Gandhi wanted the states to reduce the prices of commodities which is ridiculous," he said.
"Since, majority of the States was ruled by non-congress parties, did Sonia Gandhi and UPA want to put them in disadvantageous position during the election year?" he asked.
He said the UPA government had failed on all fronts in the last four years. The left parties, which gave outside support, were also equally responsible for the "mess" being witnessed in the country.
On CPI's demand for Finance Minister P Chidambaram's resignation on inflation and price rise, Naidu said his resignation was not going to solve the problem.
