UPA govt has pushed India to the brink of grave crisis: Narendra Modi
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today slammed the UPA government for allegedly pushing the country into grave crisis.

"It's high time to save the nation from the clutches of the Congress party which is under the spell of bad governance.

"The party has emptied India's coffer and pushed the nation to the brink of a grave crisis," Modi said today during a public function in Botad, organised to felicitate him for the creation of the new district.

On August 15, Modi had announced the creation of seven new districts in the state including Botad, which has been carved out of Ahmedabad, Surendranagar and Bhavnagar.

Targeting the UPA government, Modi said, "The present government (at the Centre) has lost the trust of the people as it has repeatedly failed to keep its promises to the people of the country. This has created a grave crisis of trust."

"People have lost their trust about whether the rupee will sustain its value or whether it will further fall tomorrow. People fear how much more diesel or LPG would cost tomorrow," he said.

Talking about the Food Security Bill, Modi said, "There is nothing new about it as Gujarat has been giving 35kg of foodgrains with wheat at Rs 2/kg and rice at Rs 3/kg."

"On the contrary, the (Food Bill) is to provide only 25kg of foodgrains, which would deprive 1.47 lakh poor in Gujarat alone of 10kg of foodgrains," he added.

Modi also took a dig at the Centre alleging it had kept refusing permission for raising the height of the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) dam on Narmada river.

"The Prime Minister now feigns ignorance about Gujarat's repeated memoranda to the Central government for the same. As a result, surplus rainwater is just flowing down the river into the sea," he said.
