HOSHIARPUR: UPA government is committed to provide improved health facilities to the people at their doorstep, Union Minister Santosh Chowdhary said here today.

National Rural Health Mission has proved to be a boon in strengthening the health infrastructure in the country, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare said at a health awareness camp.

She said that during the past few years, the Centre has provided Rs 1.10 lakh crore to the states to improve the health infrastructure and facilities.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 2,200 crore in the last six-seven years to Punjab, she said, adding Rs 65 crore has been sanctioned for the state under the National Free Medicine Programme for the current fiscal.

Expressing satisfaction over the improved sex-ratio in Punjab, which was 895 females per 1,000 males in the 2011 census, she said that the credit for this achievement goes to the Accredited Social Health Activists and Anganwari workers.

On the occasion, Chowdhary dedicated nine ambulance-cum Mobile Medical Lab to the people.
