UP polls: Samajwadi Party smells 'conspiracy' in drop of poll per centage

SP attributed the fall in voters' turnout in IInd phase of the ongoing UP polls to a "big conspiracy" of the Congress and the BSP.

LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party today attributed the fall in voters' turnout in second phase of the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly polls to a "big conspiracy" of the Congress and the BSP, saying they do not want SP-friendly Muslims and backwards to vote.

"The drop in polling per centage from 62 in first phase to 59 in the second phase is a big conspiracy of bureaucracy, playing in the hand of BSP and Congress. These parties want that backwards and Muslims should not caste their votes. The EC should take cognisance of it," SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury told reporters.

He said that SP had already communicated to the EC that officers, who were "puppet" in the hands of the BSP could play tricks hindering free and fair polls.

"Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh, senior police officer Brijlal, Pricipal Secretary to CM Kunwar Fateh Bahadur and DIG Lucknow DK Thakur and other officers are still pressurising electorate in favour of BSP," Chowdhury alleged.

It is ironic that after two phases Congress sees President's rule, while BJP apprehends mid-term elections, the spokesman said.

"These are conspiracy to disown people's power and confuse them," he claimed.
