UP looks to reduce coronavirus vaccine wastage to less than 5%

After the prime minister named Uttar Pradesh in the same breath as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as states that have been reporting high vaccine wastage, the state machinery has gone into a huddle, aiming to bring down the wastage to less than 5%, the state health minister Jai Pratap Singh said, even as he defended the state's wastage rate of 8.5%, saying an acceptable maximum wastage rate of 10% has been factored in.

Singh said the share of RT-PCR tests in total tests conducted per day will also be increased from around 40,000-45,000 per day to about 60,000 RT-PCR tests out of 1.25 lakh tests being conducted every day.
