UP govt targets Jaya Bachchan over land deal

The Principal Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has asked SSP Lucknow to file an FIR against Jaya Bachchan for violating the People's Representative ACT 1951.

NEW DELHI: The Principal Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has asked SSP Lucknow to file an FIR against Jaya Bachchan for violating the People's Representative ACT 1951.

The complaint dates back a couple of years when a resident of Barabanki said Jaya Bachchan had failed to declare three properties in her affidavit while filing her Rajya Sabha nomination.

The complainant said the assets in question were in the name of her husband Amitabh Bachchan. Following this, the Election Commission ordered an inquiry to which Jaya Bachchan replied saying that she had not concealed any property.

However, the EC said her clarifications were not satisfactory and that her affidavit had indeed violated the People's Representative Act.
