UP Govt orders to step up security for Pakistani prisoners

The UP govt today ordered to tighten security of jails, where Pakistani prisoners are lodged and asked officials to maintain extra vigil.

LUCKNOW: In the wake of Sarabjit Singh's death after a murderous assault in a Lahore prison, the Uttar Pradesh government today ordered to tighten security of jails, where Pakistani prisoners are lodged and asked officials to maintain extra vigil.

"ADG, Prison R P Singh has issued orders to maintain extra vigil of jails having Pakistani prisoners," Secretary, Home, RN Upadhyay told reporters here.

He said that there were 24 Pakistani prisoners, lodged in different jails of the state on charges, including terrorist activities and spying.

Lucknow prison has maximum of nine Pakistani inmates, he said, besides three in Meerut, two each in Agra and Ghaziabad and Kanpur, followed by one each in Varanasi, Gyanpur, Unano, Sitapur, Bareilly and Muzaffarnagar respectively, he added.

Upadhyay said Pakistani prisoners have been kept in separate barracks.
