LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik has sought the opinion of electoral body of the country on the disqualification of two state legislators based on the recommendation of Lokayukta N K Mehrotra.

The state Lokayukta had recommended the removal of BSP's Uma Shankar Singh and BJP's Bagrang Bahadur Singh in its report stating that "they were working as contractors after being elected to state assembly".

"The Governor office has received opinion of Election Commission of India (ECI) and he will be taking a decision in this regard after Jan 9 after he returns from his Mumbai visit. The matter is being examined," Rajbhawan sources said here today.

Lokayukta in his report to Rajbhawan on December 2 had said that act of the two MLAs was in violation of Representation of People Act.

After receiving the report, the Governor had sought an opinion of the electoral body to disqualify the legislators.
