UP Governor, CM offer condolences over death of Mahant Avaidyanath
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav today expressed profound grief over the demise of former MP Mahant Avaidyanath here.

In his condolence message, the Governor termed Mahant Avaidyanath as an old friend who had worked with him in the Lok Sabha.

His contribution in development of Gorakhpur and efforts to preserve Indian culture will be remembered always, the Governor said.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also prayed for peace for the departed soul and extended his heart-felt sympathies to his followers.

Mulayam Singh Yadav, in his message, said Mahant had always worked for the welfare of society without discrimination between castes and creeds.

Stressing that Mahant had made great contribution in the development of Gorakhpur and other areas, Yadav said with his death an era has come to an end.

Avaidyanath, also a former MLA, had been ailing for the past few months and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.
