UP government plans 24 hour power supply where line losses below 12%

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government today said that it was considering to provide 24 hour power supply to districts where line losses were below 12 per cent.

"We are considering to provide 24 hour power supply to districts where line losses are below 12 per cent and 22 hour supply to districts where line losses were less than 15 per cent," UP Minister of State of Power, Yasir Shah said in State Assembly.

He was replying to a question on power crisis raised in the Assembly by BSP member Dharmpal Singh, BJP's Satish Mahana, Suresh Rana, Radha Mohan Das Agarwal and SP's Ravidas Malhotra.

Earlier, the Opposition members tried to corner the state government over the erratic power supply in the state.

"In rural areas even four hours of power is not available and government's claim of providing 12 hours supply is not correct," BJP's Satish Mahana said.

Leader of Opposition, Swami Prasad Maurya of BSP said, power was not being supplied regularly for even one hour due to which tube wells could not run and thus affecting crops.

"The government instead of claiming to provide 16 or 18 hours of power supply, should ensure that people could get five to six hour regular supply. The state capital too witness power cuts so one can understand the ground reality," Maurya said.

Defending the government, Shah said that electricity supply was being provided as per rostering system and power was cut to ensure security of national grid.

Unsatisfied with the reply, BSP members staged a walkout from the Assembly.
