UP government may provide allowance to teachers in rural areas
LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government today said that it was considering providing allowance to teachers posted in rural areas to ensure their availability there.

"I accept that teachers use "jugaad" (tricks) to get postings near urban areas as they get more allowance there for housing and other facilities. We tried to scrap the provision and held meetings in this regard but it was not possible to do the same.

"Now we are considering to provide some allowance to teachers posted in rural schools so that they could reach there conveniently," Basic Education Minister Ram Govind Chowdhury said.

He was replying to a question raised by BJP member Vimla Singh Solanki during question hour in state Vidhan Sabha.

The minister said that he could make government primary schools at par with public schools if members of all the political parties and the House patronise and support him.

"In order to improve teaching in primary schools, the government has decided to set up model schools for class 6-8 in every districts, where English teaching will be employed.. Also, English has been made compulsory from class 1st", the minister said.
