LUCKNOW: Amidst reports that the Centre may discontinue with the attestation of documents by gazetted officers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today decided to abolish the system of submitting affidavits while availing of benefits of government schemes and taking admission in academic institutions.

"The chief minister has abolished the system of taking affidavits for all government schemes. The decision has been taken to provide relief to the people and simplify government processes. It would be implemented with immediate effect," a government spokesman said here.

He informed that from now on, no affidavits would be required for availing of government schemes and for taking admission in educational institutions. Instead of affidavits, self-attested certificates would do, he added.

The move comes amidst reports that the Union government may drop the attestation of documents by gazetted officers.
