UP Engineers Association demands CBI inquiry in Gupta's murder
Rejecting the police theory that the murder of an executive engineer in Auraiya could be due to departmental rivalry, the UPEA on Thursday demanded a CBI inquiry in the case.
"We had faith in the government and the police that justice would be done but since there is an evident attempt to present it as a case of departmental rivalry by framing two other engineers, we demand a CBI inquiry for an impartial probe," president of UPEA A A Farooqi told PTI here.
A letter demanding a CBI inquiry into the murder of M K Gupta is being sent to chief minister Mayawati, he said.
The UPEA claimed that the employees' and officers' associations of over 15 states have extended support to them and were ready to join the agitation "for justice".
"The names of Bhatia and Tyagi, which were repeatedly coming up are actually junior and most probably assistant engineers of the PWD and it could have been professional rivalry or issues related to commission which could have resulted in the crime," UP DGP Vikram Singh told reporters yesterday.
However, Farooq alleged that the two engineers by the name of Bhatia and Tyagi were "being framed in this case and we would oppose this attempt".
He claimed that Bhatia was not not even posted in Auraiya.
Farooqi claimed that two persons with the same names were personal guards of the BSP MLA Shekhar Tewari, who has been arrested in the case.
