RAMPUR: At a time when the incident of gang rape and murder of two Dalit girls has sparked outrage across the country, it has come to light that police registered three cases of gang rape in Rampur district only after intervention of court. The district police registered the three cases, that took place between December last year and March this year, on May 31 following orders from a local court.

According to the police crime register, a woman had filed a complaint at Khajuriya police station on March 10 that her brother-in-law entered her room and raped her, along with three others. Later, when the woman informed her husband and elderly in-laws she was allegedly beaten up. After police allegedly refused to act on her complaint, she moved the court.

In another case, a woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men. She alleged that her husband had forced the two men on her after she opposed to his second marriage. In the third case, six persons allegedly entered the house of an unmarried woman when she was alone, and raped her at pistol point in Swar police station area. When contacted, district police chief Sadhna Goswami said impartial and fair action will be taken in all the three cases.
