New Delhi: BJP has started preparations for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, nearly six months before the scheduled voting. Sources told ET that elections are likely to take place next April and the party is planning accordingly.

The first assembly session of UP after the 2022 polls started on May 22. Therefore, elections have to take place before that date. Currently, the focus is on the ongoing special summary revision of the electoral rolls.

UP chief minister Yogi Aditynath held a virtual meeting on October 24 with all top state BJP leaders and members of the state working committees. Sources told ET that the district and mandal-level leaders were instructed to ensure addition of all eligible voters and look for discrepancies if any.

The leaders were asked to defuse any misinformation regarding the voter list and help new voters get registered. BJP general secretary and UP in-charge Vinod Tawde has set up call centres in Lucknow, with a total of 200 callers to begin with. The call centre is being managed by UP BJP general secretary Sanjay Rai, who was earlier heading the state's BJP IT cell. Callers are connecting with party workers at the grassroots level, providing them information about programmes and the visit of senior leaders in their area.

Sources told ET that by November 15, a large number of telecallers would be deployed, and by December, the number could rise to 1,000, with new call centres being established at different locations in the state.

In every election-bound state, BJP deploys a battery of telecallers to establish direct connection with voters and party workers. These centres work until the voting day, provide directions to workers and collect feedback from all regions.
