UP Assembly session beings tomorrow; Opposition plans to corner government
LUCKNOW: With the brief monsoon session of the Uttar Pradesh legislature starting tomorrow, opposition parties are bracing themselves to corner the Samajwadi Party government on all burning issues including law and order and suspended Noida chief engineer Yadav Singh case.

"This government has proved to be a failure on all fronts and as the main opposition party, BSP will try to corner the government on law and order, especially crime against women and other issues in a forceful manner," Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly and senior BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya said.

Charging the state government with acting in a manner similar to the Modi government at the Centre, he said the BSP will strongly oppose the move to amend the Zamidari Land Revenue Act 1950 which will harm the interests of members of Scheduled Castes and give a free hand to land mafia to grab the land of Dalits.

"He (chief minister) is aiming at becoming mini-Modi who brought land acquisition bill...there is no difference between the two and BSP will oppose it in both the houses of the legislature," Maurya said.

Questioning the logic behind bringing supplementary budget worth Rs 22,000 crore on August 17, Leader of the Opposition in the legislative council, Naseemuddin Siddiqui said only 10 per cent of the budget has been spent by respective departments till now out of Rs 2.74 lakh crore annual budget.
