In the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Modi government will inaugurate or lay foundation stones of more than 140 projects in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. The number of such projects will be 68 each in non-NDA ruled Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

As per the presentation made before the Council of Ministers earlier this week, inauguration and foundation laying of more than 100 projects in Gujarat would be held before the code of conduct for 2024 election kicks in.

Similarly, inauguration and foundation laying ceremony of more than 50 projects would be held in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, sources said, followed by around 30 projects each in Odisha, Bihar and Assam.

In total, more than 900 projects would be inaugurated or foundation stones laid at a total investment of Rs 13 lakh crore before the announcement of 2024 elections, sources said.

Of these 900 projects, one third are from the Road and Housing Ministry while more than 100 projects are from the railways.

A detailed presentation on capital expenditure before the Council of Ministers sharing a detailed month-wise packed schedule of inauguration or foundation laying of projects for next nine months was presented, they said.

Sources said this also indicated a tight packed schedule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in coming days as he would be expected to inaugurate or lay the foundation stones of most of these projects. Projects in poll-bound states would be completed fast in the coming days, they said.

Among these 900 projects, several of them are flagship projects of the Modi government, including Chenab Bridge, Sone Bridge, Dwarka Expressway, Ankleshwar-Baroda stretch of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Gorakhpur-Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojna.

Chairing the Council of Ministers, PM Modi had asked his cabinet colleagues to get all the work done, including the ongoing projects by Republic Day next year.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also suggested refraining from the politics of freebies and focus on how these projects will impact the nation building process.
