UNPA meets to decide on Prez, VP polls

UNPA to hold meeting on July 14 to decide stand on Presidential and Vice Presidential elections.

NEW DELHI: A meeting of newly-formed United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) will be held here on July 14 to decide its stand on Presidential and Vice Presidential elections.

The meeting will be attended by all alliance partners and new entrant to the front, Farooq Abdullah of the National Conference, Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh said.

He said the meeting would be hosted by former Haryana Chief Minister and INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala at his residence here.

The meeting assumes significance as the opposition NDA is toying with the idea of backing a candidate of UNPA for the post of Vice President in exchange for its support to Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

However, in Chennai, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa denied that the BJP had offered the post of Vice President to UNPA if it supported Shekhawat.

Last month, the UNPA had campaigned unsuccessfully for a second term for incumbent A P J Abdul Kalam.
