United Nations Project on protection of ecosystem launched

The UN organisations would contribute four million US dollar for the project while the state government would spend Rs 1.22 crore, it said.

AIZAWL: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today launched the United Nations Joint Initiative Project on protection of ecosystem.

An MoU between various organisations under the UN and Mizoram government was inked on the occasion and the document was signed by UN Resident Coordinator Lisle Grande, and Mizoram chief secretary L. Tochhawng, a release said.

The project would emphasise food security, livelihood security, energy and environment security, ecological balance, sustainable livelihood, income generation and sustainable use of bamboo and agriculture produces for protection of ecosystem and market linkage.

UN organisations like UNDP, FAO, UNIDO and ILO would be involved in implementing the project, the release said.

The UN organisations would contribute four million US dollar (Rs 24.54 crore) for the project while the state government would spend Rs 1.22 crore, it said.
