Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said this after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called on her and discussed about the project.

Union Water Resources Ministry seeks more funds sought for Polavaram project
NEW DELHI: The Union Water Resources Ministry may approach the government seeking an increase in allocation of funds for Polavaram Multi-Purpose Irrigation Project in Andhra Pradesh.

Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said this after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called on her and discussed about the project.

"Yes. There is too much pressure from my ministry on the government and on the Finance Ministry," Bharti said when asked whether her ministry would be approaching the government for increasing the allocation for Polavaram project, adding that they are positive to the suggestions.

She further said the Centre was committed on completing the Polavaram project within the set time-frame.

The Polavaram Project Authority, a centrally funded multi-purpose irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh, has been given Rs 100 crore funds in the current budget to start with.
