Union HRD minister Smriti Irani to lead BJP protest ‘Dhikkaar Sabha’ against Rahul Gandhi in Amethi

NEW DELHI: Union HRD minister Smriti Irani will lead a BJP protest, called ‘Dhikkaar Sabha’, in Amethi against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday as part of BJP’s plans to hold a series of demonstrations against all Congress and Left party members of the Lok Sabha in their respective constituencies, blaming them for the washout of the monsoon session of Parliament that prevented passage of some crucial legislations, including the Goods and Services Tax Bill.

Irani, who had contested against Rahul Gandhi in the last Lok Sabha elections, has kept her association with Amethi intact by visiting the constituency on a number of occasions.

Four party MPs and state unit BJP leaders will assist her in protests this time, party members said. Minister of state for statistics and programme implementation Rao Inderjit Singh will lead similar protests in Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s constituency Rae Bareli. Singh, who is Lok Sabha MP from Gurgaon, was a long time Congress leader before joining the BJP in the run-up to the 2014 general elections.

BJP finalised its plan to hold such protests and demonstrations in the constituencies of all the 44 Congress MPs in the lower house, nine CPI(M) members and one CPI Lok Sabha member on August 13, the last day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
