Amit Shah's visit to Tripura Sundari temple cancelled

Agartala: Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the Tripura Sundari temple in Tripura's Gomati district was cancelled as his helicopter could not take off due to inclement weather here on Friday, an official said.

Shah, who reached Agartala on Thursday evening, was scheduled to visit the 524-year-old shrine this morning.

"The union home minister's trip to Maa Tripura Sundari temple has been cancelled due to bad weather," Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather told PTI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, on September 22, 2025.

The temple has been redeveloped under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism at a cost of over Rs 54 crore.

Later in the day, the union home minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the proposed Pushpabanta Palace Hotel in Agartala and visit the Lankamura border outpost in West Tripura to assess the ground reality along the India-Bangladesh boundary.

Shah is also likely to chair a high-level security review meeting with special emphasis on effective border management at the BSF Tripura Frontier headquarters at Shalbagan in West Tripura.

Chief Minister Manik Saha, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, DGP Anurag Dhankar and senior security officials are likely to attend the meeting.
