'What course correction…': FM Sitharaman's sharp reply to LoP Rahul Gandhi over Budget criticism
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday criticised the Union Budget for 2026–27, calling it “blind to India’s real crises” and accusing the government of ignoring unemployment, farm distress and a slowdown in manufacturing.

"Youth without jobs. Falling manufacturing. Investors pulling out capital. Household savings plummeting. Farmers in distress. Looming global shocks - all ignored," the Congress leader said.

"A Budget that refuses course correction, blind to India's real crises," Gandhi said in a post on X.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, however, announced an increase in the government’s capital expenditure target to Rs 12.2 lakh crore for FY27, up from Rs 11.2 lakh crore in the current fiscal year. She also unveiled a slew of measures aimed at boosting infrastructure, including in tier-II and tier-III cities.

The Budget was presented amid heightened global uncertainty, trade frictions, US tariffs and a slowdown in exports.
