Unfortunate to Link Rape with Religion, says Ram Madhav

NEW DELHI: BJP general secretary Ram Madhav told ET on Thursday that there was no question of the party protecting the accused and that it was unfortunate that the Kathua rape was being communalised.

“We just don’t want any innocent to be punished. And there is nothing wrong with that expectation. We are completely with the state government on the proceedings.

We want the law to take its own course,” the BJP leader, who is also seen as the architect of the BJP-PDP coalition in J&K, added.


The rape and murder of an eight-year-old Bakherwal Muslim girl in Kathua has sparked nationwide outrage. The case has also been given a communal twist with some Jammu-based politicians and lawyers rallying in support of the accused.

Denying that there was any friction between the PDP and the BJP on the enquiry proceedings, Ram Madhav said: “We have also passed a resolution stating that the guilty must be punished and justice be rendered to the victim.”
