Understanding with Nepal must to solve Kosi issue: Mishra
Recalling the devastation caused by floods last year, former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra has said that the only way to find a permanent solution to the Kosi river issue was to develop an understanding with Nepal.

NEW DELHI: Recalling the devastation caused by floods last year, former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra has said that the only way to find a permanent solution to the Kosi river issue was to develop an understanding with Nepal.
Saying that floods were the biggest problem of north Bihar, he said "It is necessary to have the consent of Nepal for a permanent solution to the Kosi-river issue as mounting pressure on that country is likely to backfire."
"The people of Nepal are very different. India should resolve the Kosi river issue with the country by taking it to an international platform," Mishra said while speaking at a function organised here yesterday to inaugurate Akhil Bhartia Nav Nirman Manch, a non-political organisation committed to the development of Bihar's "Mithilanchal".
Speaking at the function, Chairman of the Special Task Force on Development of Bihar, Planning Commission, Satish Jha said that Bihar and Jharkhand are close to achieving an understanding for acquiring the land needed to set up three new power plants in Bihar.
"Several formalities with respect to setting up of the new power plants have been completed. Understanding between Bihar and Jharkhand with respect to land acquisition is in an advance stage," he said.
The power plants will come up at Pirpaiti in Bhagalpur district, Kajra in Lakhisarai district and Chausa in Buxar district, he said, adding that at present, Bihar is importing 800 MW from outside to meet its power demand and this was very costly.
