Uncertainty hangs over Jyoti Basu in LS Polls

KOLKATA: For the first time in his long political career, uncertainty hangs over veteran Marxist Jyoti Basu���s using his franchise on Wednesday. This is not because of any other reason but poor health.

CPIM sources said on Monday that Basu is very eager to cast his vote despite his broken health. "Basu had expressed his desire to cast his vote when state party secretary Biman Bose visited his home recently. Basu had also requested Bose to help him to use his franchise," a senior state party leader said on Monday.

He also said that doctors attending on Basu will examine his health condition of Wednesday morning when the last phase of polls takes place and decide whether he could be allowed to travel from home to cast his vote. It is very likely that Basu wouldn���t be allowed by his physicians to move out of his home as his health is in poor shape.
