UNC not to lift the economic blockade in Manipur

The Centre has held couple of rounds of tripartite talks involving UNC, state government however there is no end to the impasse. The state is going to polls in March.

GUWAHATI: There seems to be no end in the Manipur economic blockade in two highways as the United Naga council ( UNC) which has clamped the blockade has stated that it will not lift the blockade till political creation of seven new districts are made clear by the state government.

The presidential council of UNC, in a meeting, has resolved to continue with the blockade whichstarted in November 1 last year.

The Centre has held couple of rounds of tripartite talks involving UNC, state government however there is no end to the impasse. The state is going to polls in March.

S. Milan, General Secretary of UNC told ET, " We will not lift the blockade till the political position on creation of seven districts is made clear."

UNC leader Gaidon Kamei and S. Stephen were remanded to another two weeks police custody by the chief judicial magistrate, Imphal east.
