UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary initiative for social responsibilities in private enterprise involving 3,600 companies, has been launched in Israel.
The Compact pledges participating businesses from over 100 countries -to observe principles regarding human rights, labour rights, environmental sustainability and the fight against corruption.
The launch took place in Israel yesterday in a ceremony hosted by Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, the world body said, adding that leading Israeli businesses are expected to join the initiative in the weeks ahead.
