Uma Bharti, senior leaders skip key meet in Jhansi

LUCKNOW: The BJP state executive meeting in Jhansi, ahead of next years polls was agog with the absence of high-profile senior leaders.

Despite the meeting being held in her constituency Jhansi and being an invitee to the executive, Uma Bharti did not attend the two-day meet. On the first day of the meet, party leaders kept explaining that Uma Bharti will arrive on Sunday.

But she failed to make an appearance even on Sunday and party leaders said she had some pressing engagements and had informed the senior leadership. Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath did not attend the meet either which wound up on Sunday evening.

Both Uma Bharti and Yogi Adityanath are known to have frequent outburts against national leadership and share an uneasy relationship with top leaders. Other noticable absentees were Vinay Katiayr and OP Singh, who were formal invitees.

polls may not spell well for the Bhahartiya Janata Party (BJP).


The factional tussle between senior leaders has often been the bane of party and as polls draw near many leaders have started throwing their weight around.

Meanwhile a day after Prime Minister Modi lashed out against goondasim in the name of “cow protetction” and apealed the state government to prepare a dossier on such anti-social elements, BJP state president Keshav Maurya has asked the Akhilesh Yadav government to form a task force to identify fake vigilantes or those who take law in their hand in name of cow protection.
