ULFA never supported any political parties in elections

Proscribed outfit ULFA on Saturday said it had never supported or helped any political party for wining elections.

GUWAHATI: Proscribed outfit ULFA on Saturday said it had never supported or helped any political party for wining elections. ULFA in its mouthpiece Swadhinata stated, that Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi s claim that high voter turnout in Assam polls shows that people are with us. Than why the government is averse to hold referendum under UN supervision on if the people of the state want independent Assam or not, it questioned.

Mr Gogoi on April 24 said that state witnessed high turnout of voters. This is clear indication that people have faith in democracy, he said. Hinting at ULFA, Mr Gogoi stated that those demanding sovereignty, must take lesson from the turnout.

ULFA mouthpiece further stated that ULFA has not supported any political party as no political party has talked about restoration of Assam sovereignty in its poll manifesto.

In another development, the police on Saturday arrested an accomplice of the Dima Halem Daogah-Jewel (DHD-J) outfit. The militant outfit has created havoc in the North Cachar Hills of Assam. Firearm and Rs 50 lakh found in his possession in Meghalaya.

Sources in police said that the person is identified as Aten Haflongbar, who was arrested from Shillong.
