ULFA kills father-son duo allegedly for spying

Anti-talk ULFA which is also known as ULFA (Independent) has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Anti-talk ULFA meanwhile has claimed Mahanta and his son were killed for spying as they were working for Indian Army against the outfit.
The killing of two persons by anti-talk ULFA militants at Bordumsa along Assam -Arunachal Pradesh border has sparked protests.

Anti-talk ULFA which is also known as ULFA (Independent) has claimed responsibility for the incident. A group of six armed militants came to the village and three of them entered the house of Anteshar Mahanta and fired several rounds at Mahanta and his son Karun Mahanta on Monday.

Mahanta is a BJP leader of the local Panchayat while his son was a former leader of All Assam Students' Union. Mahanta has received extortion demand from anti-talk ULFA faction.


Local students’ body protested the killing. All Assam Moran Students’ Union questioned anti-talk ULFA leader Paresh Baruah as to why indigenous people are killed.

Anti-talk ULFA meanwhile has claimed Mahanta and his son were killed for spying as they were working for Indian Army against the outfit and had been warned several time by the outfit to desist from such activities.

In a statement the outfit stated, “Mahanta and his son were involved in spying against the outfit and had been engaged in threatening families of our cadres and force them to surrender. We had warned the duo to desist from such activities in the past.”

Assam Director General of police, Mukesh Sahay said anti talk ULFA is active in some pockets of Upper Assam especially along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh and Assam-Nagaland border. Police has launched the combing operation.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the indiscriminate firing at Bordumsa in Tinsukia district and announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia.

Sonowal while condemning the indiscriminate firing reportedly at Bordumsa, asked the police administration to take stern action against the perpetrators.

He said that in a democratic society no such high-handedness will be tolerated as the government is prepared to deal with such inhumane killing with iron fist.
