NEW DELHI: Ajay Bhushan Pandey, chief executive officer of Unique Identification Authority of India ( UIDAI) has been given additional charge as the chairman of the Goods and Services Tax ( GST) Network, the governemnt said in a notification.

Navin Kumar, chairman of GSTN retired in August last week. The country rolled out its most ambitious tax reform till date GST in July this year and GSTN has built the technology backbone of the new tax regime.

Pandey has been associated with the UIDAI which administers the Aadhaar project since its launch seven years ago. An officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Pandeyis graduated from IIT Kanpur and obtained an MS and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Minnesota.

GSTN is a not-for-profit entity owned by the Centre, states and non-government financial institutions, and is responsible for building and running the technology backbone for new tax regime.
