UDF's attempt to defer local bodies polls will be thwarted, says Left Front

KOCHI: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) will prevent all attempts by the ruling Congressled United Democratic Front (UDF) to postpone the election to the local bodies, LDF leaders said.

Speaking on behalf of the Left Front, Kanam Rajendran, CPI state secretary, said that during the meeting with the EC the Left Front will ask to hold the local body election in October itself so that the newly elected representatives can take over on Nov 1.

If there is any attempt to postpone the election the LDF will approach the Court, he said.The EC is to meet the political parties today to discuss and finalise the poll date.
