Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, who represents the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, on Sunday questioned the Election Commission of India's decision to recognise Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's faction as the real Shiv Sena claiming that the decision was reached in lieu of the thousands of crores of rupees which has exchanged hands.

On Sunday, Raut tweeted, "A constitutional body with quasi judicial powers should not only be impartial but also appear to be away from any influence. Unfortunately, the EC order does not inspire confidence. The BJP has no scruples and can go to any extreme to safeguard its investment of Rs 2,000 cr."

Raut later told reporters that Rs 2,000 cr had changed hands to ensure that the EC rules in favour of the Shinde camp.

He added that 'Rs 2,000 cr was not a small amount for a government that spent Rs 50 cr to buy the MLAs to switch sides.
