Uddhav criticises Pawar for farmer's suicide

Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday held Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar responsible for increasing farmers suicides in Maharashtra.

MUMBAI: Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday held Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar responsible for increasing farmers suicides in Maharashtra.

Sena had organised a talk on farmers suicide attended by Uddhav and agriculture expert Budhajirao Mulik.

Pawar is so busy with cricket that he has no time to see the plight of farmers. Being Agriculture Minister he is asking farmers to quit farming, Uddhav said.

He said if state governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have waived farmer's loan why not Maharashtra government?

Around 1.5 lakh farmers committed suicide in last eight years in the state. But Pawar did not visit a single farmer's house, Uddhav added.

Concerned about farmers families he said, three girls from farmer's family recently committed suicide. But the state is not paying attention to them.

Mulik said farmer's suicide has not stopped even after the relief packages announced by the government.
