‘UCC neither necessary nor desirable’: Owaisi slams Amit Shah’s 21-state plan, questions NDA allies
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has hit back at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement that the BJP-led NDA aims to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in all 21 states it governs before 2029. Owaisi accused the BJP of pursuing the UCC to target Muslims and argued that the move goes against India’s pluralistic character and constitutional protections. Shah, meanwhile, said the UCC has already been introduced in several states and expressed confidence that it would be implemented across all NDA-governed states before 2029. Owaisi also challenged the BJP to implement the UCC in Goa.
