Two-phase Panchayat polls in Assam

During the first phase around 16 districts will be covered while in the next phase 10 districts will be covered.

GUWAHATI: Assam will have two phase Panchayat polls. The local polls will be held on December 5 and 9 this year.

During the first phase around 16 districts will be covered while in the next phase 10 districts will be covered. The counting of the votes is scheduled to be held on December 12.

The code of conduct has become effective from Monday onwards. Polling will be held across 23, 505 booths. Around 3,665 stations have been identified as “hyper sensitive”.


An electorate of 1, 56, 41,456 will cast their votes in the polls, this is an increase of 21.49 percent in comparison to last Panchayat polls. The term of large number of panchayats ended in April this year.

The poll will be a test of popularity for two year old BJP-led government. Already BJP’s ally in ruling coalition, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has decided to go in the Panchayat polls.
