Two person killed by suspected militants in Assam

Police said that armed militants came in motorcycle and it is suspected that explosion took place when a grenade lobbed at business establishment of Kamal Agarwala.

Suspected anti-talk ULFA militants carried out an explosion near Dimow Chariali in Sivsagar district of Assam on Thursday which killed two persons.

Police said that armed militants came in motorcycle and it is suspected that explosion took place when a grenade lobbed at business establishment of Kamal Agarwala.

The businessman was earlier served with ransom demand by militant outfit, anti-talk faction of ULFA. A decade back ULFA had targeted the businessman and fired randomly at his house.


Pallab Bhattacharyya Director General of police (Civil defence/home guards/in charge of Special Branch) told ET, “The needle of suspicion is on anti-talk ULFA. Earlier also outfit has attacked Agarwala and he was provided with security.”

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal strongly condemned the act and said that miscreants responsible for the killing will not be left scot-free and strictest punishment will be handed out.

The Chief Minister termed the incident incident as an act of cowardice. He said that DGP has been directed to take immediate measures to nab the culprits involved in the incident.

Recently anti-talk ULFA killed five Bengali speaking people in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district. The outfit has later denied that it was not involved in the incident.
