Two people beaten to death in Assam over child abduction rumours
The incident is believed to be fuelled by rumours in the social media that claimed a group of child abductors are allegedly scouting for children in the region.

The incident is believed to be fuelled by rumours in social media that a group of child abductors are scouting for children. Two youth identified as Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet Nath had gone to Kathilangso waterfall, where they were attacked by the mob.
The youths pleaded they were not child abductors and that they hail from Guwahati and have come here to enjoy the scenic beauty. However, the mob did not believe them kept assaulting them.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked police to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Director General of police, Kuladhar Saikia said, “Additional Director General of Assam Police (Law and Order) Mukesh Agarwala has rushed to the area. We will ensure fast track investigation of the case.”
Police has so far arrested five persons connected the crime.
