Two men, including an Indian, feared abducted in Afghanistan
Two foreign nationals were believed to be kidnapped in western Afghanistan, police said on Tuesday, as the Indian government confirmed that one of its nationals was missing.
Police initially said the men missing from Herat province since late Monday were an Indian and a Nepalese, but later said both were Indian nationals.
In New Delhi, the Indian foreign ministry said however that only one of its nationals, employed by US security company EOD Technology Inc, had gone missing in Herat's Adraskan district.
The police spokesman for western Afghanistan, Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, told AFP the pair had called police late Monday and said: "We're in trouble."
"After we sent our police to the area, they had gone missing. We found their vehicle abandoned," he said.
"They're kidnapped," Ahmadi said, adding however that police had not been contacted by any group that may have taken the men.
Taliban insurgents have been blamed for scores of such abductions over the past years, but criminal gangs also snatch people to extort ransom.
